Gary Andrew Speed, MBE - 1969 - 2011

It is always so very sad to write about the death of someone, particularly when it is a relative or friend, but in this instance although I have no personal association with Gary Speed, other than having watched him play from the stands, I personally wanted to pay my respects to a true gentleman and a model professional.
It really does put the game of football into perspective........everything else pales into insignificance when the reality of such a tragedy hits home.

Gary Speed with his wife Louise

The news of his death has been broadcast by the media continuously over the last 24 hours, and it is hard to add to all the touching, heartfelt sentiments of those people who were closest to him, his family, his friends and his fellow professionals in particular.

Gary was born at Mancot, in Flintshire on the 8th September 1969.
He attended Hawarden High School as a child. and supported Everton FC as a youngster.
Gary began his playing career with Leeds United as a trainee, signing a professional contract on the 13th June 1988 and making his first-team debut at the age of 19. His playing career spanned 22 years and he won 85 caps for Wales between 1990 and 2004, before he took on the mantle of Wales national team manager on the 14th December 2010.

At midday on Saturday the Wales manager Gary Speed was live on the BBC's Football Focus programme discussing his future plans for the side. On Sunday morning the 42-year-old was found hanged at his home in Cheshire having 'apparently committed suicide.'

Speed's death came a day after the former Liverpool footballer Stan Collymore spoke candidly about his battle with depression. Speculation surrounding Gary's death has included the possibility that perhaps he himself was suffering this horrendous mental illness.
It has also been 'alleged' that a national newspaper was going to release an article today regarding a very private matter relating to his personal life, but I must reiterate this is purely 'rumour' and nothing more. There is no substance whatsoever to this allegation.

Tributes for Gary have been pouring in since his death. Here are just a few of them:

BBC Sport's Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer, who played alongside Speed at Newcastle, told BBC Sport: "Gary was a magnificent person, bright, fun and a wonderful family man - he lit up every room he walked into. I am proud to have been his friend and will miss him dreadfully."

Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs, who played alongside Speed with Wales for 13 years, said he was "totally devastated."
"Gary Speed was one of the nicest men in football and someone I am honoured to call a team-mate and friend."

Former Wales team-mate Dean Saunders said: "I just can't believe it. I spoke to him last week. We roomed together all of our careers with Wales. I just can't get my head around it. It's incredible. He's so level-headed. You never saw him down in the dumps. He was just a really nice fella. I'm just thinking about his wife and his lads."

Another former Wales teammate, Robbie Savage, tweeted: "The world has lost a great man in Gary speed I'm devastated spoke to him yesterday morning why ! Why Why !! I'll miss him so much x"

A statement from the Welsh Rugby Union said: "Wales has lost a great sportsman, a true gentleman and a man who was working extremely hard and succeeding to deliver a bright future for Welsh football."

Sincere and heartfelt condolences go to his wife, Louise and sons Tommy and Eddie.

It goes without saying that the sport of football will truly miss Gary, but without a shadow of doubt his memory will live long in the hearts of fans all over the world.

Profile of wwe superstar wrestler RANDY ORTON

Randy Keith Orton was born on April 1, 1980. He is a third-generation wrestling superstar. His grandfather was Bob Orton Sr. His father is WWE Hall of Famer “Cowboy” Bob Orton Jr., and his uncle is Barry O. After graduating high school, Randy joined the Marines. He left a year later with a dishonorable discharge due to unauthorized absences and disobeying a direct command. He spent 38 days in the brig of Camp Pendleton Base.

“Cowboy” Bob Orton:

Randy’s dad was best known as being the bodyguard of Roddy Piper and for his slow healing ability. He suffered a broken arm and had to wear a cast on that arm for years (which he conveniently used to knock his opponents out). His career highlight was being a part of the main event at the first WrestleMania. While the corner man for Roddy Piper and “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff, he accidentally hit Orndorff with his cast which led to Mr. T and Hulk Hogan winning the match.

The Third Generation of Orton’s to Enter the Ring:

”Cowboy” Bob took his son to a WWE show in 1999. He left that event with an opportunity to try out and he took advantage of that opportunity and was signed to a developmental deal with Ohio Valley Wrestling. In April 2002, he made his SmackDown debut. A few weeks later, he was injured and had to take some time off. He returned to the ring in September as a member of the RAW roster and suffered another again in one of his first matches back.

The Evolution of a Bad Guy:

Randy turned into a bad guy by the pompous way he was giving his medical progress. When he returned to the ring that winter, he became a member of Evolution. That group was led by Triple H and also included Ric Flair and Batista. During this time, he took the nickname of the “Legend Killer” because he would taunt, assault, and humiliate any legend he saw. He was able to parlay this momentum into a World Title shot at SummerSlam 2004.

The Youngest World Heavyweight Champion:

At SummerSlam, Randy beat Chris Benoit to become the youngest champion in WWE history. His enjoyment didn’t last for long. The very next night, Triple H turned on him and he was kicked out of and beaten up by Evolution. He lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Triple H the next month. He stayed a good guy for a few more months until he decided to challenge the Undertaker.

Rey Mysterio & Kurt Angle:

Randy Orton was able to secure a World Title shot at WrestleMania 22 by beating Rey Mysterio. In a three-way match, Rey became the champion when he pinned Randy. Kurt was angry at Randy for costing him his title. A few weeks later, Kurt broke Randy’s ankle as payback. That injury coincided with a 60 day suspension Randy was given for some backstage problems he was having.

Rated RKO:

When he returned in the summer of 2006, he became a member of the RAW roster again. He had a big match with Hulk Hogan at SummerSlam which he lost. That fall, he started to team with Edge as part of Rated RKO. The two men set their sites on D-Generation X. They won the World Tag Team Championships and were able to put Triple H out of commission. As WrestleMania 23 approaches, there is tension between them due to losing the titles and both men wanting the same thing, to be the WWE Champion.

The Age of Orton:

On October 7, Randy was awarded the WWE Championship due to John Cena's injury. He lost the title and regained it later that night from Triple H. He held onto the title for six months before losing it back to Triple H in a four-way match that also included JBL and John Cena. A few months later, he suffered a shoulder injury during a match against Triple H.

The Legacy:

When Orton returned to action, he started a stable called the Legacy. It consisted of Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes, the sons of "The Million Dollar Man" and Dusty Rhodes, respectively. They went after the McMahon family and injured Vince, Shane, Stephanie, and finally Triple H en route to regaining the WWE Championship. The group broke up in 2010 and Randy has been a fan favorite ever since. He was drafted to SmackDown in 2011 and won the World Heavyweight Championship form Christian less than two weeks later.

profile of wwe superstar wretler EDGE

Adam Copeland was born on October 30, 1973 in Ontario, Canada. He made his pro debut in 1993. While on the indy scene wrestling as Sexton Hardcastle, he teamed with Christian Cage. Edge debuted in the WWE in 1998 as a loner that would enter the ring through the crowd.

The Brood:

While feuding with Gangrel, his "brother" Christian debuted at the side of Gangrel. Edge eventually joined the Brood which was led by Gangrel. The Brood then became part of the Ministry of Darkness which later merged into the Corporate Ministry. Edge & Christian left the Brood and Gangrel in 1999 and went on to become the most successful team in WWE history.

Edge & Christian:

As partners they won the World Tag Team Titles on 7 different occasions. Their 3 way feud with the Hardy Boyz and the Dudley Boyz was a classic as were the TLC matches they had against those teams. By 2001, the two men became goofballs that would allow fans 5 seconds of flash photography among other zany antics. In 2001, Edge won the King of the Ring tournament and that set in motion the undoing of this team.

SmackDown Superstar:

In the original draft, Edge was taken number 6 by SmackDown. While there, he feuded with Kurt Angle and won the WWE Tag Team Titles with both Hulk Hogan & Rey Mysterio. In 2003, Edge needed neck surgery and was off for a year.

RAW Star:

In March 2004, Edge was drafted by RAW. In June, he became World Tag Team Champ with the World Heavyweight Champion Chris Benoit. In July, he became Intercontinental Champion by beating Randy Orton. He feuded with Evolution and Chris Jericho. In September, he suffered a groin injury and missed a month of action. When he returned, he asked the fans to vote for him to fight Triple H in the main event of Taboo Tuesday.

World Title or Nothing:

By fan vote, he and Benoit were to wrestle for the tag team titles at Taboo Tuesday. He walked out on his partner who would go on to win the belts. The Edge vs Benoit feud culminated in a 3 way match with Triple H for the World Title which resulted in the title being declared vacant. Around this time, Edge’s autobiography was released.

Matt Hardy & Kane:

Edge started 2005 off feuding with Shawn Michaels. At WrestleMania 21, he won a Money in the Bank ladder match which entitled him to wrestle for any championship whenever he wanted to within a year. A few months later, reality and wrestling story lines collided as he started going out with Matt Hardy’s girlfriend Lita. This led to a feud between the men and a feud with Kane who was “married” to Lita at the time.

Cashing in the Money in the Bank Twice:

At New Year’s Revolution 2006, he cashed in his title shot after John Cena survived an Elimination Chamber Match. He easily beat the worn out champ to win his first world title. He lost the belt a few weeks later at The Royal Rumble. A few months later he won the title from Rob Van Dam but lost it back to John Cena. In May 2007, he won the Money in the Bank title shot from Mr. Kennedy and used it to easily beat the Undertaker the following night after the Undertaker fought in a steel cage match against Batista and was beaten up after the match by Mark Henry.

Love Leads to More Championship Gold and Problems:

Edge started a relationship with SmackDown GM that allowed him to gain an unfair advantage to continue winning championship gold. In the summer of 2008, the two got married. The marriage didn't last for long and Edge would eventually find himself on the other side of Vickie Guerrero's wrath. In 2011, he beat Alberto Del Rio at WrestleMania XXVII to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. That turned out to be his final wrestling match before he was forced to retire due to medical issues stemming from the neck surgery he had a few years earlier.

Profile of WWE superstar wrestler JOHN CENA

Intro:

John Cena is the wrestling embodiment of the hip-hop culture. Like Enimen, John Cena uses his rapping ability to insult those he doesn't like. He even personalized the WWE title into a piece of bling-bling featuring a spinning WWE logo. This young superstar has reached the top of his profession and his future only looks brighter.

Pre-WWE:

John Cena was born in Massachusetts in 1977. While wrestling in the Ohio Valley Wrestling development territory of the WWE, he was known as Prototype. He was on the 2001 UPN reality TV show Manhunt which was cancelled due to bad ratings and a controversy about the legitimacy of the program.

The Doctor of Thuganomics:

In June 2002, he made his SmackDown debut by accepting an open challenge from Kurt Angle. The one thing he was missing was a compelling gimmick. That Halloween, he dressed like a Vanilla Ice impersonator and did his first rap. With this new hip-hop persona, he would insult the crowd before the matches by making bad raps about their city and wearing throwback jerseys of the enemies of the local sports team.

U.S. Champion:

With the help of his gimmick and improving wrestling ability, he was in a main event title match by April 2003. That November, the inevitable face turn occurred and his career has skyrocketed since. He was involved in a feud for the U.S. Championship with the 500+ pound Big Show. At WrestleMania XX, he won the title. Even though he wasn't the World Champ, he solidified his spot as the most popular wrestler on SmackDown.

The Champ is Here:

For the next few months, Cena was involved in feuds with Booker T and Carlito for the U.S. title. In the beginning of 2005, he won a tournament to fight JBL for the WWE title at WrestleMania. Prior to this match, he lost his U.S. title due to the interference of JBL. Cena got his revenge by becoming WWE champ at WrestleMania 21. He beat JBL in a rematch the next month in an I Quit Match.

From SmackDown to RAW:

During the annual draft lottery, John Cena moved to RAW. This move put him into an immediate feud with Chris Jericho. Jericho has released rock albums with his band Fozzy and Cena had just released his rap album. In this battle, hip-hop pinned rock. John Cena also started out on bad terms with GM Eric Bischoff, who vowed to do all he can to get the title off Cena and make his life miserable on Raw.

The End of an Era:

Cena began feuding with Shawn Michaels and Kurt Angle and also caused the firing of Eric Bischoff by beating Kurt Angle and Chris Masters. At New Year's Revolution he beat both men plus Kane, Carlito & Shawn Michaels in an Elimination Chamber Match. Immediately following the match, Edge used his Money in the Bank Title Shot and easily beat the worn out champ. He regained the belt a few weeks later but later lost the title to Rob Van Dam.

The Marine and an Image Change:

Shortly before the release of his movie, The Marine, John beat Edge in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Match to win the WWE Championship for a third time. The movie was a huge hit once it became available on DVD. Around the same time as part of an image makeover, he backed away from the rapping and throwbacks and now wrestles in camouflage shorts. His third title reign lasted over a year and he lost it via forfeit due to an injury.

Neck Surgery and Return:

A few months after returning from his arm injury, he suffered damage to his neck. In his first match back after having neck surgery, John won the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time by beating Chris Jericho. In early 2009, his two signature moves, the FU and STFU, were renamed the Attitude Adjustment and the STF, respectively. Since his return, he has won and lost the WWE Championship on several occasions as well as starred in a few more films for WWE Studios.
