Dhoni is not Acting in my film: Dino

When news broke out of Mahendra Singh Dhoni ready to act in a film that will be produced by Dino Morea, it had many in the cricketing fraternity wondering whether Dhoni is indeed asking for a lot on his platter than what he can comfortably digest.

Dhoni is indeed asking for a lot on his platter than what he can comfortably digest.

Before their surprise could escalate into a worry, Dhoni’s manager confirmed that the Indian captain has no such plans of acting in films in the near future.

Speaking to CT, Dhoni’s manager Yudhajit Dutta said, “Dhoni isn’t doing any film now. There was a communication lapse. He has only entered into an endorsement project with Dino’s company.”

When Dino was informed about Dhoni’s version, he said, “My comment was misinterpreted. I signed Dhoni and Yuvraj for my merchandising company and not my production house. Since I have not spoken much about my merchandising company, I guess not too many people know about it. That’s perhaps the reason for confusion. Dhoni and Yuvraj are not doing my film.” Point noted, but is there any script that he is penning for his
production house?

“Yes, we are working on a script on cricket. If it turns out well, we will start working on it. I plan to act in that film too,” he clarified. Mind you, Dino isn’t worried about the poor box-office turnover of cricket films in India. Of course, Lagaan and Iqbal did well though there would be a debate over whether the films generated their revenue because of their cricket connection or their underdog stories. “Worldwide, sports films do so well.

There is no reason why we can’t replicate that success. Lagaan, of course, did well but it was a period film. Jannat, set in today’s times, dealt with things off the field. We are trying to make a film that’s high on the
emotional content and focusses more on the game,” he said.

With his captaincy under the scanner for Team India’s unimpressive performance in the British Isles and the Caribbeans, Dhoni would do well without further controversies related to the time spent in front of the camera once he returns to India on July 8.
