Alice Was Wonderful in Mimaland

Alice In Wonderland.
Not a review.
ALice in Disneyland?
Alice in Netherland?
Alice in Bolehland?
Alice in Legoland?
Alice in Mimaland?
Ali in Bumiputraland?



First things first.
The 3D is not worth it.
It's nice and all,
But after Avatar, all other 3D not worth it anymore.
But the movie itself is not bad.
I kinda liked it.
It's not spectacular, but at least it was entertaining.



My only SLIGHT disappointment was Johnny.
I expected the Mad Hatter to be well, MADDER.
Instead, he was er.. HATTERer.
As in he made more hats than he was mad.
Oooh, but The Red Queen was EXCELLENT!
Helena and her BIG HEAD!
And Tweedledee and Tweedledum!
TWEEDLEWHEEEEEE!



Oooh, Snape is a caterpillar!
And Stephen Fry is the Cheshire Cat!
And Christopher Lee is the Jabberwocky!
And Anne Hathaway as the White Queen! So Flouncy!
And that Miz Wazernamekowski is quite pretty too.
A bit kayu, but cute. :-D



The Land certainly was Wonderful.
Almost as wonderful as the Disney cartoon one.
Though I think I still prefer the Disney one.
Burton's Wonderland a bit scary.
But I still liked it.
But mostly because of the Red Queen.
OFF WITH HER HEAD!!!!

Wonderland Has Wonderful Posters

Whether the movie will live up to expectations remains to be seen, but for now, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is looking pretty damn wonderful.

The trailer was wonderfully weird, and GOD DAMN the posters look awesome:



Alice is very pretty, no? The White Rabbit looks a bit scary though, I'm not sure why.



A caterpiller with Alan Rickman's face! And the Mad Hatter! (he looks like a combination of a very drunk Jack Sparrow and Willy Wonka...)



OOOOOH, the CHESHIRE CAT! WHEE!

I have GOT to get my hands on ALL THREE POSTERS! They would look gorgeous on the wall....

Not exactly 9 Reasons to Watch 9

Not a review.
No no, not District 9.
And not that Nine movie with all the hot babes singing.
It's the animated feature.
That's not coming to Malaysia, BTW.
Saw this in Singapore with Fireangel.
Who didn't understand the story either.



Maybe it was the old school crappy cinema.
(note to self, don't watch movies in Shaw House Lido's Hall 6.)
(And to that idiot behind me who kept asking... "What is 9 about hah?")
(JUST WATCH THE DAMN MOVIE CAN OR NOT!)
After the movie we were both going HUH?
What happened? Why was it like that?
And why is the cinema so crappy?



Sure, it looks damn good, and the animation is brilliant.
But the whole movie was a bit underwhelming.
And the story a bit 'HUH?' lor.
And the voices not very memorable.
IT sounded like the actors were just reading their lines,
Without bothering to add anything to it.



Anyway, it's actually not a bad movie.
Maybe my expectations were too high.
So many good reviews mar.
It's produced by Tim Burton,
And that Timur "Night/Day Watch" Bekmambetov guy.
And has Elijah Wood, Jennier Connelly, Martin Landau,
John C. Reilly, Crispin Glover...
And oh, Christopher Plummer.
Who seems to be having some fun in CGI animations these days.



Like I said, the story was a bit 'HUH?'
Why were they created in the first place?
Why did they have to do THAT?
Why did THAT have to do THIS?
And if the 9 stitchpunks are what their creator said they are...
Then how in hell did one of them turn out to be a GIRL?



It's a fun movie though.
Not quite as clever as most reviewers have made it out to be,
But it's gorgeously animated,
And it's pretty dark and gloomy.
Probably not exactly one for the kids,
But it IS worth a watch.
Just don't expect too much.



I'd love to see the short film this is based on though.
I bet it was much better.
Especially without the cliched 'star' voices,
And without having to stretch the story to feature length.
Then again, without the movie...
I wouldn't have heard of the short film anyway.
So hurrah for the er... third best animated feature this year!

Mad Hat Depp Is At It Again!

We interrupt the slew of Transformers-related posts on EoE today for a special Johnny Depp news flash.

Yes, the one-time heart-throb of 21 Jump Street, who will be appearing in Michael Mann's Public Enemies as himself (well, as a Johnny Dillinger who looks like Johnny Depp anyway) will next be appearing in another movie as a character that doesn't look one bit like Johnny Depp.

Presenting.... The Mad Hatter from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland!



Reminds me of a cross between Willy Wonka and a broom. Should be interesting to see how whacky he gets in this role this time. It IS called the MAD Hatter after all... Hey, maybe after this Christopher Nolan could get Depp to join the Batman movies as the Mad Hatter as well. He wouldn't even need to change his makeup!
