Insert Coin, Press Start... AND START WRECKIN'!

Wreck-It Ralph.
Not a review.
Video games heaven! WHEE!
Sonic! Street Fighter!
Tapper's! Pac Man!
PONG! FREAKING PONG!!!!
OMG all the awesome cameos!

If you love video games,
You'll love this movie.
Especially all the retro videogames.
The arcade ones most of all.
Brings back memories of Street Fighter marathons.
NOW I know what Ryu and Ken do after the arcade closes!

No, Fix-It Felix is not a real game (Yet)
Neither is Sugar Rush or Hero's Duty (Yet)
But they're all based on SOME other game.
And I wouldn't mind playing those games actually.
Ok maybe not Sugar Rush.
I suck at racing games.
Loved playing Daytona, but sucked at it.

Zangief! M. Bison!
Bowser! Dr. Robotnik!
That orange ghost from Pac Man!
Now THAT'S what I call a bad guy support group!

Q*bert!
%#*@&!
@#%$(*?
%#@#%^#...
Aaaawww, poor guy...

I loved watching all the cameos,
And also the video game references.
then they got to Sugar Rush,
And then all the sugar references were er... SWEET.
Heh heh.

Ngehehehe, Jane Lynch,
Awesome kickass character!
With a tragic backstory LOL.
The little kid a bit annoying,
but after awhile she's cute and grows on you.
She's er... SWEET!

I really hope they make a sequel,
And give those familiar old game characters more screen time.
I'd love to see a retro arcade / game console crossover,
Imagine, the Double Dragon twins vs. Altair and Ezio!
Or Zangief vs. Kratos!
Or Pong versus Tetris!
Er ok, maybe not.

Naughty or Nice, Santa's Gonna Kick Your Ass!

Rise Of the Guardians.
Not A Review.
SANTA CLAUS!
THE EASTER BUNNY!
THE TOOTH FAIRY!
SANDMAN!
JACK FROST!
Together at last, and kicking ass!

I LOVE team-ups like this.
Especially when you think about it,
It DOES make sense,
That all these myths and legends would hangout right?
I mean, surely they don't just muck around waiting for Xmas etc?
They've got to do SOMETHING.

I love how each of them have their own characteristics,
And how their worlds and powers reflect their holidays.
It's like the Avengers, but with holiday legends instead!
The only one I didn't really like was Jack Frost,
I thought he was a bit er... MEH.

Santa and the Easter Bunny have never been THIS badass.
Santa with "Naughty" and "Nice" tattoos?
Easter Bunny with egg bombs and a wicked boomerang?
And holy cow, Sandman!
Don't let the cute demeanour fool ya,
He is one kickass little dude!

HAHAHAAH I LOVED THE ELVES!
I'd love to watch a crossover between this and Despicable Me.
Just so Santa's Elves can fight the Minions.
CUTEST FIGHT EVER!
They can throw in Easter bunny's eggs as well,
Just don't let the Yetis join in.
Oh, and bring on Madagascar's Penguins as well! LOL

Oooh, the Boogeyman!
And his Nightmares.
I like how the Nightmares are horses.
Night-mares, geddit?
I thought it was Benedict Cucumberpatch at first.
Turns out it was Jude Law.

This is probably one of the more enjoyable Xmas movies I've seen,
It's fun, exciting, and cool.
Dreamworks' movies really are getting better and better,
Look out Pixar,
Time to start looking over your shoulder!

Go Watch Goliath Or I'll Zap You With My Heatray

War of The Worlds: Goliath
Not a Review.
Malaysia Boleh!
Well, sort of.
Eh, 70% Malaysian production ok!
And it's the most important parts too!

It's like a sequel to the original WOTW.
Yeah, after all those silly Martians died,
After catching a cold MUAHAHAHA.
So, after that, humans just sapu their toys lor.
And built their OWN awesome tripods.
FUCK YEAH!

Can someone PLEASE make a polystone statue of the Goliath Tripod?
The design is AWESOME.
It's all designed by Malaysians, BTW,
I loved the way they mixed steampunk and Martian tech,
The animation, the design were also pretty damn good.

Ok, now on to the story.
Er, ok, this is where it's a little flimsy.
Ok fine, it's a fairly simple story.
Martians came, killed, and ACHOOO! died.
Humans survived, and made AWESOME MARTIAN KILLING MACHINES.
Martians come again, TO KILL US ALL!
(This time after taking their anti-flu jabs).
Humans fight back valiantly!
KABOOM RATATATAT PEW PEW ZZZEENGGGEEOWWWWWW
(that last one's the heat ray)
Annnd.. you can guess the rest.

Yup, pretty standard story,
But don't let that stop you from watching this.
It's actually pretty entertaining.
Like watching Robotech or Gundam,
But without the complicated trippy stuff.
Well, at least it felt that way to ME.

I like how they set it in WWI though.
It was like a WHAT IF Martians attacked before WWI.
And how they put in all those historical figures.
Teddy Roosevelt, The Red Baron,
NIKOLA TESLA FTW!

Adam Baldwin FTW!
Yeah, his character pretty much steals the show
Ok, he's only in it for a bit, but STILL!
The rest were not bad,
There's even a Malayan dude there,
Goes to a bar and drinks tea,
And he's got mad keris-wielding Martian-killing skills!

It's a bit slow in the beginning,
But once the tripods start kicking ass,
Then it gets pretty cool.
Seriously, if Tom Cruise's movie had him driving a tripod
And taking the fight to the MArtians,
Instead of just running away and hiding,
I bet it would have been SO MUCH MORE AWESOME.

Welcome to Hotel Transylvania, Such An Unoriginal Place.

Hotel Transylvania.
Not a review.
In a dark KL cinema, cold air-con in the hall.
Warm smell of popcorn, coming in through the walls.
Up there on the big screen, I saw a sickening sight,
the jokes were smelly, and the laughs were slim,
I didn't know what to write.

Sigh.
I really expected more,
Especially from the creator of Samurai Jack and Dexter's Lab.
This just seemed like a wasted oppurtunity.
Paranorman was WAY better than this.
So much more original and creative too.

I mean COME ON.
It's a HOTEL. For MONSTERS.
There's SO MUCH YOU COULD DO with that.
And all you could come up with were FART JOKES?
Could it because Adam fucking Sandler is in it?
So it AUTOMATICALLY NEEDS FART JOKES?

Drac was actually not a bad character,
But Sandler's voice just grates on me.
And Selena Gomez?
Other than the fact that she was Selena Gomez,
What else did she give the character?
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

The Mummy! The Invisible Man!
Frankenstein's monster! The Werewolf!
All those GREAT characters and monsters!
But NOOOO, fart jokes are way funnier.
And It's ALL ADAM SANDLER.
And that HUMAN KID OMG KILL HIM PLEASE.

Ok, it was funny in parts,
But the cliches, the lazy gags,
The been there done that-ness of it all.
I was hoping for Samurai Jack to show up,
And WIPE THEM ALL OUT.
That would have been a great twist.

ParaAwesome!

ParaNorman
Not a review.
Paranormal is para-awesome!
NO, it doesn't have someone doing the para para sakura.
Though it would've been awesome if the zombies did it.
The zombies were awesome, BTW,
And brilliantly done too.

Zombies! Witches! And a hockey mask!
If you're a fan of horror movies,
You'll notice a lot of homages and parodies.
Story was quite straightforward,
Though it DOES turn the tables a little.
And the zombies were not the scariest ones there...

Really, it's hard to believe it was stop-motion,
I mean, it was OBVIOUS it's stop-motion,
But the level of detail and the animation,
It was really, really good.
Makes Nightmare Before Christmas look clunky.
Great characters too.
Give that fat kid a BEST FRIEND EVER award!

Is stop-motion animation making a comeback?
First this, then Frankenwiener later.
What is it about stop-motion and horror?
It just seems to... fit.
NBX, Corpse Bride, even the Wallace and Gromit movie.
And now this.
Not that I'm complaining.
Stop-motion animation rocks!
(BTW, stay back after the credits for some cool stuff!)

Brave Move, Pixar. Brave Move.

Brave.
Not a review.
This is one brave little movie.
It's an original animated feature,
It's not a sequel of a mega franchise,
It's not based on any existing material.
It's a simple, straightforward, touching fairytale,
In a time where people just don't believe in fairytales anymore

I've always loved cartoons, and Disney fairytales,
And Brave rekindled all those memories for me.
Yes, it's very Disney-esque,
There's songs, spells and even a talking animal.
But it's not your typical Disney Princess shtick.

There's no Prince Charming saves the day shit, for one,
And no bad guy out to rule the world.
Also, Merida ain't no Disney Princess.
Heck, she could use ONE tiny arrow,
And kick ALL the Disney Princesses' dainty little asses.
Yes, even Mulan and Rapunzel.

Merida is adorable.
She's the kinda character you REALLY want to root for,
Even when she fucks up.
She's got AWESOME looking bushy red hair,
That just goes EVERYWHERE.
AND she can shoot a bow damn well.
Oh, and I found the Queen quite HYPNOTIC.

The animation is GORGEOUS.
It makes you want to drop everything, buy a ticket,
AND GO TO SCOTLAND NOW NOW NOW NOW!
Don't watch this in 3D though,
Cos it kinda fuzzies up the beauty of the scenes.

Oh, and unfortunately, it won't be on IMAX.
Something about IMAX not wanting to show any animated stuff
Which is a damn bloody shame,
Because it would have look STUNNING on IMAX.
And I'll bet the 3D would have been great as well.
BOOO IMAX, BOOOOOO.

Has Pixar become a victim of its success?
Have we grown to expect TOO much out of them?
Brave isn't a bad movie.
In fact it's a GREAT movie.
It just isn't what people expect out of Pixar.
Is it because our expectations of Pixar are too high?
Or are we too cynical to like the simpler things in life?

You know what?
I refuse to believe that just because I'm all grown up,
I'm not supposed to enjoy the things I loved as a kid.
I don't want to turn out all jaded and cynical,
Looking at wonderfully simple fairytales like this,
And thinking, "Meh, it could be better."
Or "Meh, it's too preachy" or "It's for kids"
I'm going to watch Brave all over again,
And this time, I'm going to LOVE IT even more.

Seuss Makes Me Wanna Rhyme, Almost Every Single Time!

The Lorax, Not a Review.
I couldn't stop rhyming after the preview.
So bear with my dismal poetic attempt,
And please don't regard me with too much contempt.

This is a film that everyone should see,
It’s fun, colourful, witty and funny,
It’s great fun for kids and families.
And it teaches us to save the trees!

Yes, The Lorax is a story about being green;
A subject on which you might not be very keen.
Now the book has been made into a movie,
Spreading its message in IMAX 3D.

Remember the horrible Cat In The Hat?
Or Jim Carrey’s Grinch, oh that was so bad.
But Horton Hears A Who got me over the moon,
I think Dr. Seuss is best when it’s a cartoon!

Since the book was as short as a song,
The movie stretches it to 90 minutes long.
The main story of the book is still there,
But they've added more to make it less spare.

It's got that kid from High School Musical,
And Taylor Swift, who has pretty good vocals.
There's also Ed Helms, the specky Hangover dude,
Oh, and Betty White as a granny with a cool attitude.

The Lorax was a character as rich as wine,
With Danny Devito voicing his every line.
He was cute, cuddly but also rather grumpy,
He can also make you feel damn crappy.

The film stays true to Dr. Seuss’ story,
With a few changes to keep the kids happy.
The dialogue and script was nice and witty,
And the IMAX 3D was actually quite pretty.

This brought back a lot of childhood memories,
Of finishing Dr Seuss books in a jiffy.
I hope it gets kids to read the book,
And keep in their own special nook.

Kids will love it, adults will be laughing,
Just don’t get annoyed by the corporate bashing.
Kids will have fun, and I hope they’ll learn,
That we shouldn’t let all the trees burn.
