20 Comics That Would make AWESOME TV Shows

1) Gotham Central - Imagine a nitty-gritty crime procedural set in Gotham City, and focusing on the Gotham PD's Major Crimes Unit. Imagine being a police officer in a city with Batman. I want this TV show to be made SO BADLY.

2) Transmetropolitan: Spider Jerusalem rocks. He's an almost insane journalist in a futuristic City who sticks his middle finger at establishment and government by.... writing a column. A thoroughly kickass character whose vocabulary has more swear words than actual words. Carrie Bradshaw isn't even worthy enough to lick the bottom left notch in the sole of his boots.

3) Runaways - A group of kids who find out their parents are part of a gang of supervillains, and runaway from home. There was supposed to be a Runaways movie, but it's still stuck in pre-development hell. A light-hearted, Buffy-like ensemble TV show would probably suit it better though, plus the kids don't wear stupid spandex costumes, so it would be easier to produce. I think.

4) Sandman: Seriously, they've been wrestling with making a Sandman movie since the beginning of Destiny, and they're still nowhere near greenlighting it. And for good reason. The story is so sprawling, has so much depth and characters, that putting it all in ONE movie would NEVER be able to do it justice. So why not make it a TV show instead. With the right producers, it could be an epic, dark serialised show that doesn't just focus on Dream, but even Death, and the rest of the Endless as well. Think of the possibilities!

5) DMZ: New York City. War zone. This is the story of one journalist in the middle of the DMZ, struggling to make sense of the senseless fighting in his own country... Would make a great, intense, story-driven serialised show.

6) Y: The Last Man: Hey, The Walking Dead is set in a world full of zombies. How different is that from a world full of women and only ONE man (and his monkey)? Get a REALLY good looking guy to play Yorrick, and LOTS of hot chicks. WIN!

7) Top Ten: One of my favourite Alan Moore stories, about a police force on a world full of superheroes. Should be awesome.

8) Hellblazer: Yes, I know he already had a feature film, but though it was entertaining, Keanu Reeves just ain't Constantine. Besides, the rich texture and awesome supernatural stories that Constantine gets into make for an awesome TV show. The BBC really should consider making this one, just so they can make it as British as possible.

9) Fables: Once upon a time, this would have been on top of my list. But now, thanks to shows like Grimm and Once Upon a Time, I think the market for fable-related TV shows is already kinda crowded. Would still be great to see Fables turned into a proper show though. It WAS optioned for a show in 2010, but that project is dead now.

10) Ultimate Spider-man: Sure, he's got lots of movies already, but the storyline in Ultimate Spider-man neatly balances his superhero exploits with his his personal life, relationship and growing pains; as well as how he copes with being a teenager with superpowers. Smallville, eat your heart out.

11) 100 Bullets: 100 Episodes of gritty, ultra-violent hardcore crime drama. Perfect.

12) Animal Man - One of the more offbeat superheroes in the DC universe. Animal Man can absorb and use the abilities of any animal in the vicinity; but the main appeal of this comic is not the superhero part, but how Buddy Barker manages to juggle being a family man AND being a superhero. Would make a damn good family drama, I bet.

13) BPRD: Hellboy's got his own movies, so why can't the BPRD have their own show? It could be a Fringe or X-Files-like show where the team investigates a Monster of The Week, and the central plot could be one of the long running stories in the comic books like Plague of Frogs or something.

14) Books Of Magic: Before there was Harry Potter, there was Tim Hunter, who was introduced to magic by the Trenchcoat Brigade, which includes John Constantine, the Phantom Stranger, Doctor Occult and Mister E. Against THIS lot, Hagrid would have been banished to Never-neverland even before he lifted his silly umbrella. There could even be a potential crossover to the Constantine TV show!

15) Ex-Machina - A political drama with superheroes. Ok, ONE superhero. Who is also the Mayor of New York. Who as a superhero saved one of the World Trade Center towers during 9/11. from You can't tell me this isn't the perfect premise for a TV show about politics and superheroes.

16) Batman: Gotham Knights - This won't be just a show about Batman, but about all his allies as well. Heck, they could make Robin the main protagonist of the show, and show how the Bat-team (which includes Oracle, Robin, Huntress, Azrael and so on) work together to fight crime in Gotham. It'll be like Gotham Central, but with a lighter focus and on the superheroes instead. I'm sure there'd be A LOT of drama to mine just from the interactions between each superhero. There could even be a crossover with the Gotham Central series!

17) Preacher: This was actually optioned for a TV show way back in 2006, but it's currently in limbo. It should ideally be a more Western type show, but it won't be easy to adapt a show about a preacher who wants to hunt down the REAL God and get Him to answer for His sins. And seriously... ARSEFACE? Good luck trying to get HIM on the show.

18) Resurrection Man: Admittedly, I've only read RM's New DC 52 comics, so I'm not very well-versed in the character as a whole. But hey, he's a guy who dies, and is resurrected each time with different super powers. Would make a GREAT Quantum Leap styled series. I was considering putting Deadman here instead, but Resurrection Man somehow seems a lot more interesting to me...

19) League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen - Chances of THIS ever being made is virtually nil, considering that Alan Moore absolutely ABHORES working with Hollywood after they mangled up the LXG movie (a movie so bad that Sean Connery quit acting after that haha). But it would be GREAT to have a movie about the LXG, set in different ages. Just have the two main characters Alan Quatermain and Mina Harker (three if you want to count Orlando) and have different literary figures join them on each episode. Would probably be hell getting the permission to write many of the characters into the show though, but wouldn't it be GREAT if they pulled it off?

20) Tank Girl - Would probably be more suited as a cartoon, to be honest, but it would be a hoot if there was a Tank Girl TV show. It should ideally be a sitcom though, since I'm not sure Tank girl's antics could be stretched to a one hour drama.

20 Signs That You're Probably Watching Too Many TV Dramas

1) Your playlist consists of TV theme songs, and you can never seem to get them out of your head.

2) You automatically think of Horatio Caine every time you hear a song by The Who.

3) It doesn't matter how many other shows or movies they've made. They'll always be Barney/Thirteen/Mulder/Buffy/Angel/That freaky vampire from Supernatural to you.

4) You instantly tell who the murderer/conspirator will be by who is on the guest star's list. If you don't recognize anyone among the guest stars, then it's usually the person who only makes like a five minute appearance in the first 25 minutes.

5)  You always expect the solution, diagnose or final piece of the puzzle to be inadvertently given by someone OUTSIDE the investigation, usually someone in the family or personal life of the lead commenting about something completely relevant to the case.

6) You go "HEY! THAT'S Crowley/Sterling/The Guy From Chuck/CSI/Dollhouse!" He must be the murderer/bad guy/evil mastermind!" every time you see Mark Sheppard.

7) You start rolling your eyes whenever you realize that it's the Halloween/Christmas/Thanksgiving episode.

8) "Hey, another case about social media/ghosts/vampires. Didn't CSI/NCIS/Bones/Castle do an episode like that as well?"

9) You know exactly which part of the show is non-vital enough to tune out and go get a beer or take a piss.

10) You start imagining what it would happen if Horatio Caine, the BAU from Criminal Minds and The Mentalist got together to solve a case. Imagine the fireworks! There's gotta be a movie in there SOMEWHERE.

11) You know by heart the exact days and times a new episode of your favorite show goes on air in the States, and when and where to start er... acquiring them.

12) You watch shows not by the episode, but by the SEASON.

13) You yell, "LOOK OUT, SHE'S A CYLON!" While watching Hawaii Five-o

14) You actually start watching the Emmys just to see your favorite shows win. I mean seriously, WHO watches the EMMYS?

15) You watch shows just because the leading actress is hot, even though it jumped the shark two seasons ago.

16) You keep time based on how many episodes you've watched.

17) You can recognize the voices and sounds of each show so well that, you can pretty much 'watch' a show from the other room and still know what is going on without even looking at the TV.

18) You start downloading episodes of older series' as 'filler' to fill the TV off season.

19) You watch TV shows on your phone, your iPad, in the upper-left corner of your laptop screen while your're working...

20) You forget how to use your Astro remote.

20 Reasons Why Sherlock is Awesome

1) C'mon, it's SHERLOCK HOLMES.

2) It's not made by Americans (unlike THIS ONE, which sounds absolutely horrendous. Lucy Liu as Watson? You've GOT to be joking).

3)  If your only exposure to the character so far is the Robert Downey Jr version, then you've got a lot to learn. While entertaining, the movie version was just a little to cloying, and somehow, too AMERICAN for my liking.

4) If your only exposure to the character is the one from the BOOKS, then this be a nice modern update to your idea of what he is like in your mind.

5) THAT title sequence.

6) Benedict Cucumberpatch BLOWS Robert Downey Jr's Sherlock OUT OF THE WATER and INTO THE FALLS. He really IS that good.

7) I especially like how Cumberbatch makes Sherlock so eccentric but not overly so that he looks like a flamboyant but ingenious cuckoo (which RDJ's version seemed to be like at times).

8) James Moriarty is a thousand times more dastardly, chilling, scary, psychotic and ingenius  than the one in the movie. Just the introduction of the character will blow your mind.

9) The romance between Sherlock & Irene seems a lot more sensual (not because Irene is naked), and she is definitely better written than the 'damsel in distress' version in the movies.

10) Irene Adler. Naked. Nuff. said.

11) The two season finales are exactly the sort of episodes that make you WANT MORE I WANT MORE WHY ARE THERE ONLY THREE EPISODES IN EACH SEASON GAAAAAH

12) On the bright side, each episode lasts 90 minutes, which is actually longer than some Hollywood movies. This means there is a lot more to absorb each episode, AND the stories are tied up nicely in the end.

13) He may not be as good looking as Jude Law, but Martin Freeman's Watson is everything I thought Watson should be like - prim, proper, a little awkward, and extremely British.

14) I'm a sucker for the way Agatha Christie used to have Hercule Poirot present the solution to the case in the end - it wrapped up everything nicely with a BIG REVELATION. The way Sherlock presents his solutions here remind me of that sometimes. Besides, if you've watched enough American crime procedurals, everything seems a bit TOO convenient, but though it DOES seem that way in Sherlock sometimes, at least the WAY he solves these cases AND the way he presents the solutions are WAY more fun and ingenious than your average CSI team.

15) Ah, the writing, and the stories. These are not direct adaptations of Doyle's stories but rather, updated, modern version of them, with enough familiar details and situations and iconic scenes thrown in to make it brilliant.

16) Having cellphones doesn't make things easier for Sherlock. It only makes things more complicated.

17) I've compare the way both Downey Jr & Cumberbatch rattle off their deductions in their respective mediums, and found that Cumberbatch's rants are MUCH, MUCH smoother and entertaining than RDJ's, especially since his is a natural British accent, and RDJ just sounds like Tony Stark on speed at times.

18) Nothing to do with Sherlock, but I can't wait to see Martin Freeman as Bilbo.

19) Have I mentioned just how awesome Benedict Cumberbatch is as Sherlock already?

20) IRENE ADLER. NAKED. AWWWW YEEAAAAH.

Winter Has Come. HEAR ME ROAR!

I personally think that George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice And Fire series is one of the best fantasy series EVAR. Now, if only he'd finish the damn thing already, it might well be THE best ever. Best of the rest, I mean. LOTR still rules.

Anyway, when I heard that HBO was making a TV show out of the series, I was skeptical. Hollywood haven't actually had a good track record of adapting fantasy series' into TV shows (remember the Earthsea disaster?), and if they can't even get a CHILDREN'S FANTASY NOVEL like Earthsea right, what are the chances of them getting a series as expansive and deep as A Song Of Ice And Fire right?

The first worry I had was when they called it 'Game Of Thrones', without the 'A Song of Ice And Fire' in the title, or even the 'A'. C'mon lar, 'A Game Of Thrones' sounds much better than just plain old 'Game Of Thrones' right?

Anyway, yesterday I managed to catch the pilot episode of the series, and somehow... it was kinda underwhelming. But that was probably because I had completely forgotten just how slow-moving the beginning of the series was, especially before the action moved from the cold frigid environment of Winterfell to King's Landing. That doesn't excuse the rather uninspiring opening titles though...

But anyway, my memory of the series slowly started to come back as I continued watching the show - and I remembered just how tragic a lot of the book was. Just knowing how some of these characters would end up eventually was enough to give me a sense of dread. But made me curious as to exactly HOW they would pull the whole thing off.

The show certainly doesn't cut any corners - the set is marvelous, the costumes are great, and they don't skimp on the language or the er... sex scenes.

Oh, and House Lannister certainly don't disappoint. Jaime Lannister is suitably jockish and cocky; while the best casting in the show has to be Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister - you immediately take a liking to him, and this was great for me because he was my favorite character in the books anyway.

I do have a few complaints though. One - Lena Headey just seems a little too head strong and tough-looking to be a convincing Cersei Lannister. But considering how utterly evil and power-hungry Cersei is, I suppose Headey should be able to pull that part of the character off. Just that I always pictured her as a more er... blonde, doll-ish, mean cheerleader type of bitch, and not well, a former Sarah Connor.

Also, the Stark kids seemed a little too unremarkable at first. I suppose it's just the first episode and we'll probably get to know them and recognize them better, but for now, it's a bit hard to tell between Jon Snow and Robb Stark. Sean Bean is great as Lord Eddard Stark though. And you can totally see what Catelyn Stark is capable of in the future, even in this brief one episode.

Across the Narrow Sea, Daeneyrs Targaryen is shaping up nicely (and I don't mean her body shape, which she reveals more than one time in that first episode). And Viserys really is a bastard.

Oh, and one more thing - what the fuck is with all the hoo haa over the supposedly anti-feminist elements in the show? If you'd actually bothered to read the books or heck, the Wiki on the series, you'll know that the books are populated with really, really powerful women; women who will eventually dominate and shape the series. Sure, there's some gratuitous nudity, and in the beginning, the women are largely portrayed as submissive and expandable, but isn't that how Mad Men is like as well? So just because it's 'fantasy', it's not ok? Geez.

Anyway, I'm definitely gonna give this series a chance, especially since I know what an awesomely brilliant story it becomes as it progresses along. My one concern is that other non-fantasy viewers might not give it the chance to grow it deserves.

As for the books... bring on A Dance With Dragons, George, I want to read more NOW NOW NOW!

Cersei Disapproves.

THUNDER! THUNDER! THUNDER... KITTEHS!

THUNDER!
THUNDER!
THUNDERCATS!
HO!!!!!!!!

Er wait, THAT'S the new Thundercats?
IS this Thundercats or Thunderkittehs?
Why does Lion-O look like he just stepped out from a Robotech anime?
(Oh wait, it's animated by a Japanese company.)
Why does Panthro look like he's from the Planet Of The Apes?
Why does Cheetara look like a punk rock chick rather than a cheetah?
Why Does Tygra... er never mind him, never liked him anyway.
And where is Wilykit and Wilykat?
And Snarf???
Actually, never mind. The less Snarf, the better IMHO.

Let's hope the new cartoon will be good!

Walking Dead Beats The Hell Out Of Living

Zombies are awesome.
Zombies are great.
Zombies will never let you down.
Zombies will never be late.

Zombies ain't like them vampires,
Zombies certainly don't sparkle like those pussies on Twilight.
Zombies don't need a freaking full moon.
Zombies don't just come out at night.

If you haven't seen The Walking Dead TV show, you're missing out on one of the most awesome, tense, thrilling, best-written shows this year. And it has ZOMBIES.

Unfortunately, there's only six episodes in the first season of the show. But don't worry, AMC has already ordered a second season of 13 episodes, so don't worry, them zombies are coming back to TV!

But if you can't wait for the next season, I would suggest you go check out the comic book on which the TV show is based on. Why? Because it's freaking AWESOME.

It's nothing like the TV show though. Oh, the premise is exactly the same - group of survivors trying to survive in a world overrun by zombies - but if you ask me, the comic is even more awesome than the TV show. It's not just a comic book about zombies, it's about PEOPLE and what they do when the world is overrun by zombies. Heck, most of the time, the zombies are just part of the background.

The way Robert Kirkman goes about the story is a lot more uncompromising and unforgiving than the TV show. It's not just about them killing zombies, it's about the psychological changes in people when put into desperate times, and how it's not the walking dead they should be worried about, but the living instead.

It's thrilling, gut-wrenching, psychologically draining and downright depressing at times, but boy is it brilliant. It kinda makes you wish that you were a zombie instead so you don't have to live with all these evil, violent, and desperately stupid people in the world.

So yeah, go check out the Walking Dead, TV show AND the comic. ZOMBIES RULE!
